The main islands of Japan have become the subject of the sequel because of a zombie-related tragedy that ravaged the island of Nagisawa New Town in Tokyo Bay. This story doesn’t take place on one of the man-made islands constructed in Japan; instead, it continues on Honshu island— which is no longer under Japanese sovereignty due to the event. A new capital city, Shintokyo, is established to protect its residents from threats. Specialized warriors known as Valcure are trained to harness unique abilities and combat the undead. Shintokyo's story begins with an intense battle between zombies and Valcure that continues to be visually appealing to the player.
