This game supports the Wolf International Center, which seeks to study wolf protection worldwide. Project director Grant Spikelmier believes that WolfQuest is intended foremost for high school students who rarely visit nature parks or zoos. Instead, they prefer playing video games. Spikelmier believes this choice makes sense given the young players’ attention span with video games. The game's creators use it to teach children about the importance of conservation while encouraging them to pay attention to the natural world. The game also helps them remember and reflect on the world of animals and their past. This is why whoever forms a herd wins. New episodes of this series will be released in 2008. There aren't any restrictions on hunting the bear; you can even pick up its tracks occasionally to eat. By contrast, you can only pick up rabbit tracks on the side of the road.

When scavenging with a coyote or grizzly bear, don’t approach them until they try to elude you. We found that our rabbit can run faster than our wolf. This was extremely irritating to us when we first started playing. While testing our design, we realized that we left the “Q” button unpress. This button changed running to walking in an instant. Despite its greater speed, the wolf still can't catch up to the grizzly bear. We tried to hunt the grizzly bear, but it outran us and our stamina failed us; we couldn't catch it. To sense the trail ahead, press the "V" key and choose olfactor mode. The gray black puffed wolf's insatiable need for sniffing also comes in handy. When in this mode, you can switch between tracking modes with ease. Once you do so, the tracks left by all animals become visible to the naked eye. A good idea is to find an elk, or a deer partner, in order to identify which animal passed by a few moments ago. A male elk deer looks much like a wolf when it tracks a scent and finds its target. Elk wolves will charge in a zigzag pattern to surprise their prey. Press the shift key to let your gray wolf walk quietly as he edges toward an elk. Then, press hard on his lower jaw with both paws as he stealthily approaches his prey. Elk bite prey and flee before dying. They have the stamina to outrun most animals thanks to an abundance of blood.
