The tagline for Sheltered, "Survive a Post-Apocalyptic World," reveals the film's theme to be an unhappy period after the end of the world. Although it takes place in a post-apocalyptic setting, current events don't signify the world's demise; instead, it's about survivors dealing with the consequences of an event. Since you only exist to protect your family, the only people left are your beloved. To survive in an underground concrete bunker, you need to do everything possible. The beauty of The Sheltered is that it contains a wealth of information that forces players to balance both emotion and logic along with morality and the real world. Every decision causes a reaction for both the player and their family, requiring them to consider consequences further. Because you care about your loved ones, your chosen path now includes more than just you.

The game begins slowly. You can sense the characters' hesitant footsteps as you struggle to comprehend the tragedy surrounding you. Though surrounded by death, your existence feels fragile and temporary. Playing more games heightens the sense of danger and threat in each adventure. Keeping families alive through the dangerous reality of each episode is what fuels this adrenaline rush. The game features a family of four characters with different strengths, weaknesses and roles. You can change one character to be customized in all four areas by selecting from different categories. Changing these characters will require different needs at different times. To fulfill these requirements, you must traverse the East-to-West axis without interruption. For example, a tired dad needs a bed; a book-hungry mom must read; and a hungry child needs to eat. Finally, a sleepy child needs sleep. Before even stepping foot outside your home, you'll need to gather more supplies. As you complete small and large objectives, you'll earn achievement points. These will be used to develop skills for each member of your family. Additionally, you'll add raw materials such as weapons and food to your inventory. This will prepare you for a life-or-death struggle for survival. Defying enemies and satisfying real needs, your character fights to the bitter end. In a similar vein, other heroic rebels face struggles just like yours. Nothing spooks the bone-chillingly brave more than those in need. You must face your enemies on the ground with only four members in your family. You can choose whomever you want, although bear in mind to arm them appropriately and fully with defensive tools. Fighting is dangerous, but sometimes the only way to survive is through confrontation. Even after all this, your family still faces many other unplanned occurrences. These include the unexpected spread of a disease or the water supply unexpectedly running out in your underground bunker. In order to survive, people need to create weapons for self-defense. People must develop defensive tools against enemies who unexpectedly appear and look for additional resources that provide extra supplies. However, keep in mind that creating one resource will cause a shortage of other resources. Think of all the things you need to do at once: expanding your underground bunker and adding additional floors. Doing this will keep you extremely busy throughout your game.

The game involves surviving with randomized difficulties. Both in the bunker and on the ground, an artificial intelligence randomly programs each turn. In order to survive, players need to learn how to balance resources that are randomly distributed throughout the game. Given how difficult this challenge is, do you think it's too easy? Of course not! Because of the minimal resources available in this dying world, people always need to pay a cost for whatever they need. This includes needing to sleep, make a bed, or take extra time to accomplish something. When you've had a good night's rest, your stomach tends to be hungry. This is just a basic example of its hunger. We face no perfect choices; only ones that reduce the harm we cause our families. Sheltered's unexpected cruelty increases as more and more options present themselves.

When displaying graphics in Sheltered, the game goes above and beyond the traditional definition of pixels. By adding small details to the characters' movements and surrounding objects, the game creates an unprecedented level of realism. Additionally, Sheltered features pixel art that can be differentiated between family members by their clothing. I add divine spices to the low-volume music of my game. These divine spices include sounds such as footsteps on the floor, water running into a sink and a hammer banging. They add excitement to my game's subdued atmosphere, which is appropriate for the family's living conditions in my basement.
