I’ll never forget the sensation of sitting on a small 4-wheeled vehicle with a steering wheel. Then, I’d chase smaller children to smash their cars into other hard objects. I started playing without hesitation, enjoying the joy of childhood. I even forgot about dinner that was waiting as I played.

There are no fanciful 3D cars speeding down paved roads; nor do cool motorists sport trendy helmets and eyeglasses. Instead of racing, Drive Ahead! features racers instead. Playing sports gives you the opportunity to drive your vehicle into other players and cause a crash. Doing so grants you bonus points, as long as you continue crashing into your opponents. Once you earn enough points to win, you'll be declared the winner. All you need to do is press the bottom of the screen's virtual buttons to navigate the vehicle in any direction. There are no additional controls necessary — just press one to move forward or backward. Both Single-player and Multiplayer modes are available in Drive Ahead! Sports. There's also a third option, which is called "Dual," which allows the player to play with the game's artificial intelligence. The only differences between these modes are names of rounds, tournaments and the location of the scene. It seems like everything is easy, doesn't it?

In the beginning of the game, you're given a choice of vehicle. There are different types of cars with 4-wheeled, 2-wheeled, dragon-like and other models. However, there aren't many options in the game. Instead, it's the fun and excitement that comes from playing the game that make it addictive. Taking a close look at the car isn't what makes this game so compelling. Before your opponent scores five points, you must score five of your own. You can use all options available to you, including jumping on top of your opponent, swinging through his vehicle, or touching him. Make sure to pick an opponent with equal strengths and skills so the match is fair. A game feature called Sudden Death should be avoided if you don’t have the necessary driving skills or preparation. This mode adds hard challenges such as nearby obstacles that keep you from crashing into other vehicles and make you angrier when you don’t. Some of these challenges are even added if you choose Not Ready mode. In that case, the game ends when someone touches the saw blades or large campfires. Playing on these screens is a real challenge. Each one has a distinct landscape that you won’t find on a standard flat square playground. In Drive Ahead! Sports, the playing screens can be in any shape, from a ball to a cube to a polygon. Players can even choose to place their screens in the air, under water, or across a bridge. The screens also come in all sorts of wonky configurations: square, round, diamond-shaped and even hexagonal. All these shapes offer different advantages and disadvantages in each game. For instance, round screens cause less damage to cars and earn more points than other shapes. Careful observation is required of the many odd terrains found in the game. Small mistakes can result in abrupt falls that send players flying and cause them to explode on the floor.

I explained earlier that each round requires garnering five stars in a goal-scoring accomplishment. Because it's so easy to accomplish, scoring three consecutive goals is considered a win. An additional reward for each round is a pile of gold coins. Coins earned through gameplay unlock new units with increased speed, weight and durability. It also improves the Mass, Handling and Speed of units to a maximum level of 75. Having more money gives you advantages— particularly advantages when fighting in terrain with many obstacles.

Classic pixel graphics set the Drive Ahead! Sports game apart from any other. What you need to focus on is the track and the game's interactive elements: collisions, explosions or tracks that move. The visuals in this game are very pleasing and pleasurable; they also cause great stimulation. The background music in Drive Ahead! Sports is full of life and vigor. The music helps the victor's victory blood remain hot even after playing the game a few times. In contrast, the sports sounds — such as cars colliding with each other — are extremely powerful and hot. You can give Drive Ahead a shot first.
