You are the one destined to vanquish the oppressing tyrants by ending their reign with a destructive blow. Defy their grasp as you combat the lower classes' hopeless struggle. Each class comes with special abilities. They can develop new powers, which increase their potential exponentially. Select a class and begin your struggle to break the bonds of servitude.

The Dark Steel game takes place in a realistic medieval setting. Because of the high quality graphics, players can experience the game as if they were living in the era. This leads to some truly memorable experiences that are completely authentic. Advanced 3D graphics make Dark Steel's on-map movement almost flawless. Additionally, the game features smooth movement for characters and other objects. The game accurately portrays its scenes with authentic portrayals of jungle areas, rock caves and ancient strongholds. The games color scheme is dark to represent the fates of slaves who are still lost. The Dark Steels control system is noteworthy as it provides a third-person perspective when playing the game. Additionally, the control system is remarkable because it has a Dark Steels controller. In the corners of the display, the panel sits below two diagonal lines that delineate icons. This is where one accesses a character's special attacks or a slash. Pressing a specific key located near this panel initiates execution of the action.

The fantasy Dark Steels world is large; as a result, intrepid explorers will travel through forests, seas, villages and fortresses to discover new areas. Each place contains enemies that need to be defeated to continue on in the plot. There are only a handful of battles in Dark Steel that feature one versus one combat. As their level increases, characters can unlock new abilities and skills, as well as increased damage and critical hit chances. Skills and abilities can be upgraded. Their functionality improves gradually as the character levels. Fighting the upgraded character gives you a lot of benefits compared to paying for the upgrade. Characters can equip hundreds of different pieces of equipment. From hats, shoes, armor and shields to weapons, these items give different stats and attribute points. Each one has a percentage increase to specific stats— such as damage, defense and health — which increases the character's overall power. You can add equipment to your arsenal by purchasing upgrades in the shop or via enemy drops during battles. In addition, Dark Steel integrates equipment merging and black steel material collection. You'll need to gather the required materials — dark steel — and enough equipment to perform this process. Players can team up with each other in temporary events or face off against each other in multiplayer to obtain armor and weapons. Then, use these to fight the Guardian of the Tower.

In the first game mode, Campaign, Dark Steel players travel through fantasy worlds. There are also three additional game modes available.
