You can help time travelers face their crimes head-on with a team of detectives. Before time runs out, you must investigate and imprison the criminals who committed past, present and future murders. Also look for files containing secrets and solve other murders. Changes to history affect the timelines you travel through. As a time-traveling detective, you must correct these problems by finding the culprits and pursuing a legal course of action. Your cases span multiple time periods and have unpredictable outcomes, making them difficult to solve.

In Criminal Case: Travel in Time, you’ll first arrive at the crime scene. From there, you’ll interact with witnesses and inspect the surroundings for clues. You’ll narrow down the suspect until you can confidently confront the criminal and prove their guilt. In a typical puzzle game like Criminal Case: Travel in Time, players need to explore the surroundings, locate objects and piece together clues. They also have to answer questions and solve more puzzles in different scenarios. When exploring a crime scene, items of importance frequently appear in the corner of your screen. These items are listed at the bottom of the screen, and changing colors when touched. Some examples of these include weapons, towels belonging to a victim who's been lost or someone who might have been spotted but not found. Criminal Case: Travel in Time's hidden object screen is its original core. After finding enough, new levels are accessed. Your findings go to a lab for analysis to see if there’s any trace of the perpetrator or victim left behind. Next, you contact relevant eyewitnesses or suspects for questioning. Sometimes the police overlooked crucial information due to carelessness. Sometimes they passed over evidence because of an oversight. Sometimes they lied to you to minimize the damage. So be careful when trusting any information from them.

The time-varying World Map in Criminal Case: Travel in Time has 31 cases to be solved in its separate periods. Each period features a different time on the world map. The first milestone in the game Antiquity is a period from 47 B.C. to 37 B.C. that contains four or five cases. The time traveler is a fake who causes widespread havoc. Their actions cause historical time lines to fork, with ripple effects that disrupt the flow of history. Both the fictional case of an escaped slave boarding a ship and the Roman Empire’s conquest are parts of the protagonist’s plot. In the 1960s, an anti-time machine group disrupted the detective's timeline.
